McGee Creek part II - Black (Northern) Water Snake

I like snakes. I have had several in my care when I was a youth. I took pride in my care when snakes shed their skin. They did not try to bite me. And I trried to learn from them about a different way of locomotion.

This afternoon I  observed this snake for nearly 2 hours sunning itself. Air temp was 16.5C in the shade while the Creek was just a thin hair over 20C. Quite windy but the snake seemed undisturbed even if it looked at me interestingly.

A fat snake with evidence of several large skins being shed over the pastcouple of months. And the colouring is interesting too, maybe a little exagerated here.

More from today on another day - W O B

McGee Creek Part I - Autumn Colours - in August!

Cameron Ranch

And Lake Dalrymple - maybe as a result of Spring flooding, but that doesn't work for Cameron

We were surprised - our invitation to visitors was for early October!

Where's Waldo?

This is what Waldo looks like:

Vicki has "found" me - can you?

Here is a hint or two:

Too easy, right?

Eclipse Counterpoint

3 points of view:

SDO - Solar Dynamic Observatory. And the reason for the 2 aurora alerts between Aug 14 and 21.
The top is from the ISS by Roscosmos’ Commander Fyodor Yurchikhin and Sergey Ryazanskiy.
And the middle - of the Sun, Moon, and ISS - by Trevor-Mahmann

And 3 different pinhole "cameras" or projectors:
A simple colander - or why one should eat salads!

The images are reflections from the windows on buildings opposite. Each window acts as a
‘pinhole’ to image the eclipsed sun just as the spaces between leaves do.

And try to always start the day with a good creative breakfast.
And then there were those confused:

- talk about turning one's head. Reminds me somehow of Sesame Street.

And my dear sister:

Or am confusing one with my significant "Other"? I like Burgundy when I cannot have maple  syrup.

Partial Solar Eclipse from Mikisew Provincial Park, Ontario Canada

Several dozen (36 counted for sure, maybe as  many as 48 - unlikely to have been 60) campers joined Vicki and me "on the beach" to observe the prelude to the April 8, 2024 total solar eclipse

This is what SOHO, the solar space observatory

saw this morning.
And this afternoon I photographed this - in  front of witnesses!

That I think is "pretty cool" even if I have to say so myself - blog!

And for something even cooler - from the ISS and photographed by Expedition 52 Commander Fyodor Yurchikhin:

It must be true!

Gone fishin, instead of just a wishing on Wednesday August 16

Rest assured, I am healthy, just not much in the mood of subjecting the ether to my thoughts. Still, sometimes, I feel I must share with you some recent encounters. Die Bilder sparren Volker viel Zeit in Wörterbuch!
