L. W. flew a kite!

Some people never learn - and a week later return for more.

Now some people walk their dogs, while others go take a jump:

One for the money, two for the show:

L.W. also takes risks to photograph.

This has left the daft old bird "thinking" (?) - well, relatively, maybe.

Go fly a kite!

Mom used to say: "Write about what you know." That meant stay away from fiction and stick to science. However, I am very ignorant about science!

So I became an observer, complete with failings as well. However, on Saturday, the snow had stopped and the skies cleared - why plural "skies"?

How many can you count?

The skier attached to the blue traction kite did some big jumps but I don't  think I managed to capture any - too busy watching. (From our balcony.)

For contrast and as a comparison, the next shots were taken in October 2011 with the previous Pentax but same zoom.

I was on the beach looking north - so 90 degrees left of the direction from the balcony.

The  flier was about 1km away in the previous 3 shots. In the next shots , he is only 3m away:

The kites are approx 5m by 2m.

Still looks like fun - from the safe position on the balcony!

Would I like to try it?

What is it about Fridays?

Friday February 8 - a significant date in my life and maybe more in that of my Mom.

Jack Frost visited -

and left his/her strange 3-footed foot prints .

Maybe you can guess that snow was in the air, rather than rain in Spain:

Incidently, this pair of solar lights just see scattered light from the northern sky - no direct sunlight unless we take then camping with us - and still they stay lit all a long winter night long. (Thanks, Norrie, for bringing a little light into the darkness.)

Friday went missing

Actually, we went to the play "Cottagers and Indians" by Drew Taylor - and if he can use the word, Indians, then it is OK with me. C. Columbus knew he had not travelled far enough but he had shareholders to please, hence the PR work of 1492.

I digress. My sister chose to visit us - so much for relatives not being able to chose relatives but only friends. I take her choice highly personal and find it very reassuring in this complex world. We went for a walk together and these images are from that occasion.

The lighting was that magical cool period around sunset. We walked the local ice highway.

that leads from Moose Beach to Wilson's Point, about 8km long.

Sounds - missing - and lights:

For those who have never seen a snow mobile . like a motorcycle in speed and noise running on a conveyor belt like a tank tread.

Makes one yearn for the peace and quiet of summer, and Sea-doos!

a little cold for the life guards.

Another name for wind chill: squalls!

Of course I was out and enjoying the change in scenery, or the scenery being changed by the "north wind doth bloweth and we shall have snoweth" - or something almost but not quite a white-out.

Just moments apart, as I turned my head just a little to the right.

And why power lines ought to be underground:

And they do - to enter our building:

Makes me cold just thinking about the howling wind, although I was quite warm at the time. I think the temperature was -12C and wind chill -17C but I kept in the lee of Leacock after these photos, Dumb - yes, but not stupid?
