In the eye of the beholder

 It was mid September and I was depressed. I forced myself to go for a walk - over to Leacock - and I was overwhelmed. I cannot recall if there was a reason for my depression - probably not - but I was inspired to continue my walks, naturally with the camera, I don't have  a dog anymore! I have mentally composed a dozen essays that I thought I would share but have not. Too busy, too personal, too ... Anyway. I have submitted a few items in the past 6 weeks but nothing really from my soul, like I intended. This entry is also not a deep thoughtful one but rather an attempt to share the colour that I found today when Vicki and I visited our very dear friend Kathleen. If you go back a few years there is an entry with a deer watching us rake leaves.

Deer, bear, turkeys and turkey vultures, porcupine, share this space. Today socially distant tea.

So colourful.  4°C, no breeze until the afternoon.

It snowed again!

I tried to capture the snow on camera but it stopped on me. The winds are 24kmh with gusts over 40kmh. The islands between 2.5 and 6km go from view and then return in just a few seconds. Even the whitecaps on the lake rise and disappear like magic.

So back to Sunday's walk and some trees in Tudhope Park.

I was watching the horizon - the Park does have that slippery slope.

Hard to believe the colours, and the range of reds.

Sunburnt at the top?
Leaves powering the return of sugars to the roots?
Green sentries covering the retreat to Winter?

And now we know: they, the snowbirds, don't take it with them:

Memories - II

How can I have "II" when I have not posted "I" yet? Well, I have my thoughts on this and decided to delay the first entry closer to another entry which ought to appear around Monday - in response to a comment from a friend to the previous blog on the dark universe.

This morning, right on weathernet schedule, it began to snow - not much, just enough to recall that in 2010 we had - here - 10cm snow at the beginning of November and 10C plus by the end of November. And 2 winters ago - Jan.Feb 2014 - I could ski on top of the picnic tables in the park and pretend to ski jump from the table - German joke: the bottom of a ski jump is called a "Tisch" or table -

Sorry about the rotation. - So that was Tue Feb 25, 2014.

And today?

It may be awhile before I ski - but I remember how - still !!!

Old Marsh forest colours

In the last entry, 1st photo one could see the colourful trees at the edge. Here are some more - better take your insulin, these shots mostly just reduced in size, are often too much even more a maple syrup lover like myself.

Amazing colour, amazing weather, another day of Thanksgiving.

I went for that walk in Scout Valley with the hope of seeing dragonflies - and I did but could not get an image of them. They were busy trying to warm all their wings, fingers, and toes at plus 12C.
