The Day after the Night before

Minus 15C it was but now it is much hotter:

Snow on the balcony:

That is, inside and out.

The terrace is white - the view around 10am.

(Tudhope Park to the East)

And time to begin my dream of "white water" canoeing:

And the geese are getting fat - they aren't the only beings doing so, unfortunately.

So what does a young man think about after such an event?

I am feeling warmer already.

Winter is not the cold war

Recently I have noticed that there are usually more than 100 Russian visitors to this blog . on their way to the USA and the wamth of Cuban relations? Only some 20 from the USA visit this site . Are they on the way to China to buy more drones now that China  has taken an interest in "Made in USA" drones?

Anyway, here, life is rather simple: just hardy plants survive the wind chill factor of -20C:

I drink my coffee on the balcony like everone else -

Notice that snow is a good insulator! I actually like snow for that very reason.

Looks pretty cool, doesn't it.

We have winter total -

Snow is better than the slush of March-April, isn't it?

And as you can see, we are right at the heart of white-water canoeing:

Just the neighbours are sometimes "suspicious" in keeping with the key word to past blogs:

Heat was not in the very soul the Saint printed, apparently. Although the rest of him was apparently "warm" when caught on the "trail" camera:

Native?

Have a good weekend and 4th Advent  -  W O B

Friday morning - coming up

I was up at 5am and thought there might be weak aurora - the leaves on the willow have come down leaving space to view the north.

This is beginning to be "white water" canoeing season.

Monday - sunny

Now go to the first blog on Sunday Nov 22 for a comparison!

Next 2 details at the right edge - the terrace and Tudhope Park:

And why I was at great personal risk to get those shots:

But I think it was worth it:

Have a great week,

Sunday morning awakening

Vicki and I were in snow a week ago Friday in Killarney but today it reached us in Orillia:

The long portage has begun:

There are advantages to condo living - no grass to cut, no snow to shovel, but afternoon tea is cold!

On a diet

Too many superlatives, Thought I would continue with a little local colour before returning to the wild west, and more mountains, aurora, birds and dinosaurs - not to mention bison, beaver and banding about.

Do any of you want to see my splint? Ok, thought not.

So these images are from the balcony on Monday and Tuesday, local colour as it were.

Lets begin at dawn on Tue.:

The Canada geese have stayed around:

There has been gunfire in the morning. Maybe time to stay off the water and make that long portage to Spring:

Said Tom swiftly.

Paddlefest Impresions from Barrie - Lake Simcoe on Saturday

You don't want to see a lot of teachers, students, refreshing their winter muscles, do you?

So here are some impressions of a less sporty nature:

Lot of fun, water was warm - although neither Vicki nor I went swimming.

Groundhog Day

We cannot afford groundhogs and we slept in until 9:30 when the snow stopped - so no shadows under our eyes. Maybe some sunshine this afternoon - does that matter for the prediction? We have squirrels - will they do? Bushy tails indicate a long fasting period - carnival is in 2 weeks, plus 40 days: we shall see.

Wind chill -27C:
Beginning to think about the grass and the gardening:

Believe it!!
Ya, these are more my thoughts. And camping with solar power for Earth Hour on Saturday March 28:

Believe it or not they face north, receive no direct sunlight until we arrive in Killarney - provided it is not 2014! And they glow all night long. We think there is a monster who/which lives here and visits us in the night. These tracks were seen this morning:

Wonder if it can be appeased with maple syrup? Help! Call the police!
