Evidence of Spring

The ice left the lake between Leacock and Tudhope out at least 2K to the north of here with just 13K further for the lake to be ice-free again. I have taken lots of images on Sat and Sun but here are a few special moments from Friday afternoon when the sun came out and all seemed well with the world. I also worked out on the bike, something I have not done since - will have to see about Monday but I am measuring water quality again - so maybe not for awhile.

These trees were up against the terrace wall. I then walked away to the beach:

I found the ripples fascinating.

When one gets close to something one begins to see in a different way:

Quite simple things like 2 birch trees reflected off melt water. Or trees with their bark coated with wind-driven snow from the night

The "Winter" snow could not embrace the trees for long. Spring sprang loose. Now I am going to look for a comet and further evidence for Spring. Have a great week.

April is Earth Month

It is time to hug a tree!

No, not that tree -

Well, sort of - I really meant a real hug:

Loch Ness Monster and other Haunters of Couchiching - from Fri Mar 11

I noticed while preparing the impressions from this past Friday, a recurrence of a theme from the Friday before: marine creatures in my fantacy:

And there on the marge of the lake I saw another strange sight -

Strange the effect this had on me. There is a very faint trace of colour and I wondered why? Why this leaf - still in good shape after 5-6 months of wind, rain, sleet and snow. And I thought about a visit I made to a forest, thee Forest, more than 40 years ago:

As the sun slowly set in the West, on another "winter"  ... and a new year about to begin.

An Aside

Yesterday as I was walking, my thoughts were on the April theme, "Abandoned - things", as well as on woodpeckers, and, of course, all the ice formations  along the shores of Lake Couchiching. I thought I would have a pause, an aside for the moment before continuing:

Kind of erie, isn't it - that is the trunk along the right edge.

There seemed to be more trees tipped over this Spring than I recall in other years:

I have to wonder about this tree - some of the branches are growing back over the roots, maybe to counterbalance the trunk and crown.

And how about this glory?

There were many contrast - here is one to end this chapter:

And the visibility was - variable as in "RU Lupi", a real variable star

The rain in Spain is fine but the Spanish "Orillia" did not like what it got today - the plain was below zero,
and this caused problems. I dare say we were still lucky - parts of Montreal looked more like the Seaway.

The next will make sense to those who made the water droplets in May 2013:

Saturday afternoon at Leacock

I have been quiet - cannot decide whether to continue with the western tour or return to Knossos and the
May tour - any suggestions?

Went out late this afternoon to watch the lighting change over Leacock Museum. Looked at the remains of the last snow:

I took some 55 images but no real inspirational ones.
