Voyages to Antiquity - Itinerary

I thought - before I forget - I would write down our trip with links.

We left Toronto on Mon Apr 27, tranferred in Frankfurt, and landed in Istanbul on Tue Apr 28.
Good flights; we were met, picked up and delivered by very efficient and friendly people to the
Intercontinental Hotel   where we spent the next 2 nights while touring Istanbul.

Wed we visited Topkapi Palace  with beautiful tulips
followed by a visit to Hagia Sophia
In the afternoon we walked on our own from Taksim Square down to the Bosphorus.

Thur Apr 30 we visited the  hippodrome, "the blue mosque" , and Grand Bazaar before
embarking on our ship, the M/V Aegean Odyssey, for Izmir where we spent parts of 2 days
visiting Ephesus on Fri May 1 and Bergama or Pergamon with Asklepeion on Sat May 2.

We sailed to Kos where we also saw an Asclepeion
and then onto Rhodes and Lindos with its impressive acropolis.

Tue May 5 Heraklion, Crete and Knossos excavated by Arthur Evans. This then was put in
prospective with our visit next day to Akrotiri on Santorini. There are a lot more links here
to "excavate" at your leisure!

Thur May 7 was Piraeus, Athens
followed by Delos - winded out - and Mykonos which we did on our own, at our own pace,
very pleasant.

Sat was Kavala/Philippi
and Sun was Troy

Monday May 11 we returned to Istanbul, tired but very content with what we had just seen. Then came our 11hour non stop flight back - 23 hours to home.

Bye bye - W O B

PS Oh the weather!

  1. Dear Dad,
You've shown pictures of the boat, inside and out, and of planes, but where are the pictures you took of the antique sites???

    Love,
